Let Us Remember the Extended Family Unit

Seventy to ninety percent (70% - 90%) of elder abuse is inflicted by someone within the family structure. Caring for an aging adult or elderly parent is becoming increasingly common place.  This is often an enormous task adding to the stressors of daily living for those taking care of the aging individual.  Stress can often lead to conflict which can lead to frustration and eventually to physical violence and or neglect.  Mediation can be utilized in situations where family members are in conflict regarding the care of an elderly family member, thereby diffusing an at-risk situation.   Mediation as a component of restorative justice.
